Hi, I’m Sue and I am a complete cat person. I have owned cats for almost 30 years, starting off with a small black kitten from a farm and becoming completely hooked instantly. My cat family increases and decreases (as they get older) all the time, so it’s difficult to pin me to a set number sometimes, though almost always in double figures! Believe me, after living with all that lot there is not much I have not dealt with, or that surprises me about cats. You can meet “The Groovy Gang”, as they are affectionately known, here.
I have helped out at, and fostered for, various rescue centres over the years including Chestnut Cat Sanctuary, near Epping (which is now sadly closed). I currently foster mums & kittens for The Scratching Post Cat Rescue in Waltham Abbey. Our spare room is converted into a “Kitty Nursery”; everything a cat could want is in that room, along with purpose built fostering pens which can accommodate up to six separate families in peak “kitten season”. The mums usually come to me before their kittens are born, and then the whole family stay until the kittens are 9 weeks old, and ready for reserving and rehoming back at The Scratching Post. During my many years of fostering I have helped raise 100s of kittens. Photos of some of the mums & kittens are on a following page.
I have been approved by the RSPCA to foster the cats when a family needs to move to safe temporary housing because of domestic violence at home. I have also worked with Essex Social Services when an elderly person is hospitalised and their cat needs to be taken care of.
I am very interested in all aspects of cat psychology and behaviour, which I think helps to ensure my own “gang” of cats get along well together.
